Goal and Vision of the Leader's Role

7. Becoming a Servant to the Group

Most people in the world measure greatness by high personal achievement. Leadership in the eyes of the world is not just a function, but a superior status. In the kingdom of God, the leader is the servant of all and he  puts himself last. The interests of others become more important to him than his own.

The function of the leader in the world's system is to tell people what to do, to control them and to drive them toward the goal. In the kingdom it's just the opposite: the leader leads by example, as he follows Christ, people follow Christ too.

To be a God-kind of leader you will need to renew your mind with the Word of God and become a servant to every member of the group. Jesus showed us an example of attitude that leaders should have. Being the Son of God, He humbled Himself in front of His disciples by doing the work that the lowest servant of the house was supposed to do. He washed the disciples' dirty, stinky feet! (See Jn. 13:1-5) He didn't rule over them, but served them with humility.

If you want to be great in God's kingdom,
become a servant of all.

1. What attitude did Christ, the Lord of all have when he came to earth? (Mark 10:45, Phil. 2:5-8)

2. How did Jesus show His love to His disciples? (Jn. 13:1-5)

3. What status did Paul, the founder of the church in Corinth, take upon him? (2 Cor 4:5)

4. What are the status and the function of the leader of a home fellowship?
