The Spiritual Family

21. Having Spiritual Children

When someone receives Jesus as his Savior and Lord - he becomes a born again child of God. "To all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God" (Jn. 1:12). It is part of the vision of the group - to reach out to non-believers. There are so many creative ways to present this wonderful news of salvation! You can go door-to-door witnessing and invite people to your meetings. You can watch an evangelistic film and discuss it with non-churched people. You can have a picnic in summer, get together dinners, tea or just get together for fun and games. Let someone share the testimony of a changed life and then present the Gospel, give an invitation to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Most important, let the outsiders see the unity and love among the members of the group. Make new people comfortable and relaxed at your meetings. Try to make friends with them. When the group is having an outreach meeting, have some games, snacks and informal fellowship instead of the regular routine.

When your group is on the way to becomeing a spiritual family, all the members will be actively involved in your outreaches. Plan your Gospel outreaches ahead of time and ask everyone (including children) to contribute some ideas on how to present the Gospel the best way. Make it a fun event. It can and it will become a second birthday for those who receive Jesus.

The good news is that Jesus did it all and we cannot add anything to the work of the cross. Yet there is something we must do - RECEIVE.

The new birth is not the only Good News we give to the dying world. There is also deliverance, healing and wholeness. These are Greek words used in the New Testament that are translated "to save" or "salvation". Sozo means to heal, make whole, preserve, save. Soteria means health, salvation, deliverance, preservation. Jesus never sent His disciples to preach only the new birth. He sent them to preach and teach the kingdom of God, heal and deliver people. Be bold in presenting the whole uncompromised Gospel!

Christianity is not about what we DO,
but about what was DONE.

1. Jesus sent the Twelve and then 72 believers to present the Gospel. What did He tell them to do? (See Luke 9:12 and 10:1;9.)

2. Study the presentation of the good news done by the early church (Acts 10:36-43). Write the Gospel message in your own words.

3. The prophecy predicts that the Messiah (Jesus) will come to redeem the whole man: spirit, soul and body. Study Isaiah 53:4-5 and list the things that Jesus carried in our place to the cross.

4. What do the Greek words "sozo" and "soteria" mean?
